Backyard-bird enthusiasts have once again risen to the occasion for the annual Garden Bird Survey.

The project is like a census for birds of sorts, and sees tens of thousands of people each year out counting the number of birds in their gardens over a week.

This year’s survey has now closed and researchers are busy crunching the numbers.

Ecologist and modeller at Manaaki Whenua Dr Angela Brandt spoke to Morning Report.
